Any project requires good, reliable and precise equipment to ensure a successful outcome. Here is a comprehensive list of tools that I use on every project.
Precision screwdriver kit
I am very happy with this kit I use almost every day
Pliers and Tweezers
I have an assortment of pliers, wire cutters, wrenches, stripping pliers and tweezers.
For fine cutting clean my p3D printed parts. I also use it to build paper prototypes.
Needle Files / Sanding Sticks
I also printed this very useful sanding block
A hex key set
Most of the screws I used are Hex socket screws and as my precision screwdriver kit is limited to M5, I have multiple hex keys just in case. If you can’t go to your favorite tool shop, here is a cheap set
Measure and control
Always on hand, I use it to control the measurements of my impressions in 3D, to design new models from prototypes, to control the sizes of my screws… This one is ok, but you might need a better one for more precision.
Precision L square ruler & Steel Ruler
Using many Lipoli batteries, I check the battery voltage with the multimeter. I buy flight controllers as well and voting errors being possible when there is a doubt I do a check! Check this one if you need
I own this one and I am pretty happy with it
I am very happy with my Black & Decker RTX, very powerful and handy for the price. I just bought a universal chuck adapter and a kit of accessories. I use it very often to drill, sand or engrave.
A time saver, your hand will say thank you. The Black & Decker Smartech 20V is a very good one
Hot glue gun
To keep almost anything and to make small repairs, it is a most useful purchase. This gun is simple and efficient
A nice to have to heat your shrink tubes.
Heat shrink tubes
To be used with your soldering iron, a lighter or a hot air gun to insulate your welds and have a clean finish. Here is a nice set of multiple diameters and colors.
It is good to have at hand different sizes of electric wires
Tape and glue
It is always useful to have flexible tape to insulate welds, strong tapes to hold, double sided tape to make fixings and color tape for your artistic creations!
I have problems finding metric screws in Canada where I currently live, so I order them from abroad. I have screws of different sizes from M2 to M5 with nut locks.
I have a 3D printer and even if it is not a tool as such, it is a great device to make prototypes, print your own tools (a wrench, a sanding block, soldering fingers, a razor scraper…), and so many other applications.
